France builds official anti-spam platform

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

This can be really good. Many of the readers of this site have been calling out for covernment action against spammers. And it looks as if France is in the lead, when it comes to some real action.

“On Thursday, the French government launched “Signal Spam”, an anti-spam platform created in association with public entities and private companies, such as Microsoft. Internet users will be able to
report spam messages by mailing them to this platform which will act as a centralised monitor of spamming activities. The platform will generate a blacklist and help initiate prosecutions against spammers.”

PayPal phishing from Paypals.com

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Phishing is a technique where scammers send out mails where you are lead to think that you log in to a service, supplying your credentials such as username and password. Only, you aren’t even close to the real site. This example is one where I think several people might be fooled. Notice the red markers in the picture below. They are supplied by a Firefox plugin called WOT, and the fact that they are red tells me that other people have been using it to warn people about an unsafe site.
