Lottery scams

Lottery scams are widely used by fraudsters to try to scam people for small to medium sized sums of money. In the worst cases they even manage to get access to your bank account!

Dan Singh (MOH) thinks me a fool

Mail from Dan Singh (MOH)

I don’t get enough lottery scam mails these days. So few that I almost like it when I get mail from people like the alias Dan Singh, who tries to get me to believe that I have won ”Eight Hundred And Fifty Thousand Pounds Sterling ” (not my capitalization). Furthermore Dan Sing sends his mail from a free Canadian e-mail service but wants my reply to a UK free e-mail service. One could expect that someone handling a million dollars would have access to a mail domain of his own…

Yahoo Award Center

Did you get mail from the Yahoo! Awards Center? I hate to break it to you, but the mail is fake. It’s a typical scam, sent to thousands of people in order to try to steal their money, their identity or just pick petty change from them by making them answer, and thereby confirm their [...]

Powerball Online Promo keeps it short

Powerball Online Promo don’t waste words when trying to scam us. Short and to the point, and I don’t really think anybody will fall for this, but still… Here goes: X-Originating-IP: [202.75.62.162] From: Powerball Online Promo <gustavo.stringel@sympatico.ca> Reply-To: mrfrancis_scott@hotmail.com Organization: Powerball Online Promo To: <info@winner.org> Subject: File For Claims Date: Mon, 1 Sep 2008 21:56:30 [...]

Mr Ahmed Usman wants to donate 500,000 pounds

It’s been a while since I posted the last scam mail here. Not that I haven’t received any, it’s more that they seem to come in at such a steady stream that it sometimes seems futile to even think that I can publish them all. Anyhow, here’s a mail that seems to come from a [...]

United Kingdom National Lottery in a new flavor

First of all. There is no ”E-mail address ballot lottery international program” with the UK National Lottery. And we’ve been through this so many times on this site, that it feels as if I’m repeating myself. The below e-mail is a scam. An attempt by fraudsters to cheat me, and whowever else got it, on [...]

Euromillion Loteria Español and Redboath Finance and Securities S.L.

A new lottery scam. At least this is the first I have heard from them. It’s a scam of course. It has all the markings. A lottery price out of the blue without ever purchasing a lottery ticket (especially not in Spain and for the Euromillion Loteria Espanño), an irrelevant e-mail domain name, a second [...]

Brittish Lottery – Stella Roberts

Yet another lottery scam, this time labeled Brittish Lottery has landed in my inbasket. The sender alias is Mrs Stella Roberts, and the claims agent alias isAnthony Pedro. Both using yahoo.co.uk addresses. I’m urged to call a phone number in the UK: +447045750626, and they are in a hurry. If I don’t call them within 3 working days of their notification, my winnings will be revoked. Oh, and of course, they want me to keep quiet about it.

New Aliases: Peter Raymund and Margaret Ferguson

I don’t know if the lottery scammers have taken to writing more and shorter mails because of sites like this, but the last few days I have received several e-mails like this one. Very short, and with very few searchable keywords execpt for the names of the person who writes them and the so-called payment [...]

Yahoo! International Promotion Program scam

Lately, a large number of lottery, and 419 scammers have been using Yahoo! addresses. They are much more common than Google’s Gmail service. However, and ironically, not this one, that claims to be a winning notification from the ”Yahoo” International Promotion Program”, is a scam email that doesn’t use a Yahoo address, even if they [...]

Jane Furness Gordon and the Powerball prize award

Some spammers are easier to detect than others. The first giveaway is that they tend to use strange Yahoo! domains for sending their mail. This one, acting under the alias of David Thomas Clark, urges me to contact a Ms Jane Furness Gordon, who is supposed to be working for a company in England, but [...]

Another Microsoft Lottery scam

Scammers have been using well-known brands as originators for lottery scams for several years now, and Microsoft isn’t a new name. This lottery scam, from the alias Ben Clark, must however be one of the worst written notifications I have ever seen. The lack of formatting, the ridiculous sum of a million pounds and the [...]

EU Award Lotto – Jose Maria Thomas

This lotto award notification that just arrived in my GMail inbox looks new. At leas, I’d say that the Turkish footer is completely new to me, as the lack of reasonable contact info. Maybe a sign of a newcomer in the lottery scamming business? The names are all wrong, the email address could have been [...]

Honda Car International Promotion Program

Many thanks to John Jones who sent me this ‘award notification’ from the Honda Car international promotion program. Yet another scam played at newcomers on the web who are led to believe that they have won one and a half million Brittish pounds in cash. If you receive a mail or letter like this, just [...]

eLoterie International 2007

A visitor by the name of Michael, posted the below mail from the eLoterie’ International in a comment to another post. The e-mail is signed by the name of Stewart Wallis from Wallis & Gallagher Consulting, a company name that up to this point has been impossible to find on the web.

The Netherlands Staatsloterij and the fake Sweepstakes International Lottery Promotion Program

Even if the below mail, is quite similar to the previously published Dayzers Lottery scam, it is also very different, and needs a post of it own. Thanks to Gita, who submitted it in a comment. The Dayzers Lottery does in fac exist, but they don’t have any free-for anyone e-mail ballots. They even have [...]

Asia Online International Lottery

A new brand of the online lottery scam has opened. This time said to be based in Malaysia, and under the name of Asia Online International Lottery. It’s a scam for sure, and my faithful server-side spam filter has stamped it as spam, but let it through anyway. It’s a weird detail that these scammers [...]

Nordic SMS Lottery – a scam

Many thanks to Rashad Zeed Alali Aldaher who submitted this mail about the ”Nordic SMS Lottery” allegedly sent by the Nordic Lottery payment Office, as a comment to the running thread about the very similar, and probably related Gotenborg SMS Lottery scam. A few points worth mentioning: There is no such organisation as the Nordic [...]

Certificate from the false UK National Lottery

In a comment to one of the posts on the UK National Lottery scam, Tahani has kindly contributed what you get when sending in £577 for registering your claim. It’s a very phony looking certificate, and then they want £1500 more for your claim to go through with the payment process.

Euro Millones Lottery

Two big lottery prizes in just a couple of days! I missed this on Friday, but it’s almost too good to be true! Alas I didn’t win the really large prize in the Euro Millones Lottery. (What language could that be anyway?) Only a ”consolation cash prize” of 1,300,000:00 Euro. Too bad it’s a scam though.

SWISS-LOTTO Satellite software email lottery

I almost thought I would never get another lottery notification mail, but this weekend, almost to my relief, this one slipped through my spam filters. I have never come caross the SWISS-LOTTO Satellite software email lottery before, and it differs a bit from other lottery scams since it actually parasites on a real lotto site, the quite legitimate SwissLos.
