Referral spammers (or marketers as they call themselves) are getting desperate

01/31 2005 – It’s amazing what you can find in your referral logs when it comes to referral spammers, but today I was actually spammed by a site selling the tool for doing referral spamming. *effy.net – The Mass Referrer Marketer.

[Ducking the nofollow link attribute]They have a page full of info of how referral spamming actually works and why happy-go-lucky webmasters should by and use their tool. Loads of info and not a single mendion of the nofollow link attribute.

They do however, advertise the fact that referral spamming will get you excellent backlinks from pages that usually have quite high Google PageRank.

A couple of quotes:

*effy is currently in version 1.9, and it comes with a pregenerated URL list of 3047 blog websites to get you started, as well as a good User-Agent list of real user-agents taken from real statistics.

Higher search engine ranking for your site(s) and the themes and words associated with it, because many search engines decide how to rank its results by the number of links they have coming to them.

Tons of additional but relevant features included; User-Agent string manipulation, proxy support, URL harvester, multiple referrer strings, and more!

Obviously, I won’t link to them, even in a nofollow attributed link, but using the quotes above you might be able to find them from a willing search enginge of your choice. (And isn’t this a time when you whish that the infamous sandbox of Google’s could have been deeper. At least six feet or so…)
