UK National Lottery Programme
01/11 2005 - I have been exceptionally lucky the last week. This is, I think, the fifth lottery that i won!
I don’t actually publish all lottery scam mails i receive, but the more obviously bogus ones goes up here at once. So, even if the mail below was legitimate, why would they send it to a mailing list instead of just to me? Don’t you think an organisation handling this kind of sums could afford a domain of their own, and not just use spammy sub domains and open email accounts? And the very best… At the bottom of the mail. U.K National Lottery will keep 70% of your winnings! As if there ever where any…

I have also been lucky enough to win over £2,000,000 in the last week. I didn’t know at first it was a scam and replied saying thankgod I wasn’t 80yrs old as it would have given me a heart attack and whats the catch. Funnily enough I never recieved a reply from the ’scammer’.
January 29th, 2007 at 12:58 pm
well, i got the same mails from the same email adress “UK NATIONAL LOTTERY” and i got shocked at first, i didnt believe it. Then i asked one of my friend who is living in UK then he tried to reach the phone number which they sent to me. But as u guess the phone number is wrong. Then we become aware that this is just a game to get my bank account. so please dont believe these kind of silly things because its just a stupid thing to win money without doing anything infront of your computer.

I’m not quite sure which language the author of your mail speaks natively but he or she writes uses too much initial capital letters to be Brittish. And this sentence is even worse than my Swedish English:
If you are prepared to loose 440 to 580 pounds, and can afford it, go ahead, but please report back on your findings.

Mohsine,
Ask yourself a few questions:
Why do you think you won?
Did you buy a lottery ticket?
Did the notification mail come from an addres connected with the UK National Lotter of from a free online mail service?
Can you find any trace of the batch number at the UK National lottery site? http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/home/home.do
If in doubt, contact the UK National lottery directly.
Cheers,
Nikke

I have received an email too informing me that I have won in a yahoo lottery programme. I e-mailed the claim agent and after 2 days he replied and told me contact the bank immediately. The also responded and told me to send my international passport and full detail of my bank account. After that I never replied anymore anymore because I knew it was a scam. The name of the claim agent is Barr Douglas abba and the sender of the winning notification is Mrs. Diana Burkcham

I have just received an email too, informing me that I have won the lottery, this time from UK National Lottery. I assumed it was a scam, because lets be honest, what organization gives away money to random people around the world (i’m from South america). But I must admit, the mail that I got had a lot more detail that what I had read here, and they didn’t ask me any information. I’m thinking on contact them just to see if they ask me for my account number. In this case the sender is William Ward Bowman, and the claim agent is Robert Clark.

I thought it was too good to be true so went to the UK National Lottery website and they have a scam page. They give the following Info:
Fraudulent (Scam) Emails – what to do firstLottery scam (fraudulent) emails are increasing at an alarming rate.
Scam emails try to persuade the email receiver to submit personal information or to part with money as an up front payment in order to release a winning lottery prize.
As a general rule, if you have not purchased a ticket for the UK National Lottery, you won’t have won a prize, and you should treat the email with absolute caution.
The following points are some things to look for in order to identify a fraudulent email:
If the email says ‘Winning Notification’ or ‘Lottery Sweep Stake’ in the text, the email you’ve received is not from UK National Lottery;
We don’t tell players how much they’ve won in an email; and
We don’t ask for any Player information like name, address or bank details on an email.
There is no need to contact us if you have received a lottery related scam (fraudulent) email.
As we are constantly looking to improve our communication with our players, we have now changed all our email addresses to the following:
admin@national—lottery.co.uk
player@national—lottery.co.uk
play@national—lottery.co.uk
help@national—lottery.co.uk
play@play.national—lottery.co.uk
We will now use only these addresses to send you all important communication such as purchase confirmations and rollover alerts.
I hope that this helps to stop people being scammed.

I just recieved the same email as all of these people. I gave out all of my information including my account number. (no pins, no credit card numbers) but still my account number. Then I found out it was a scam. People tell me that with just my account number they will not be able to get my money, that they need my id, driver’s license, etc, some kind of identification. I am so worried, please help me! are they allowed to do something if they have my account number??? do I speak to the bank? what do I do? please help me
April 4th, 2007 at 7:18 am
If you have a bank with good-enough security, they shouldn’t be able to get any money from it. They might try though. Do talk to your bank. It isn’t against the bank’s rules to give out your account number.
However, most of these lottery scammers are actually small-time crooks without the resources to fool a bank. What they really want is to get you to pay them commissions.

ATTENTION: Lucky Winner,
We the claim verification/screening committee of THE UK NATIONAL LOTTERY PROMOTION hereby informs you that we have verified and processed your winning claims. And you have been declared the true winner of the prize as stated in the notification mail. Your prize is now ready for disbursement, along with your winnings certificate. Your winnings is not in cash form but in Bank Check, this advice complies with the Anti-Fraud section 2, sub section (IV) of the procedural manual of the funds disbursement agreement existing between courier companies and the British Government. The payment process involves your making a choice from these two options of payment, the one that suits you the most for the release of your winnings.
1. Open an offshore account with our affiliated bank where your prize will be deposited if you choose this option, and have your prize transferred by your self to any desired account you wish to transfer it to, as we may have told you that this prize was deposited in an escrow account which gives only you the right to the account. What is required of you will be to activate/make your first deposit into your account which you must do before the transfer can take place.
OR
2. Have your winnings cheque couriered by our affiliate courier firm to you so that you can take it to your local bank to cash. However, the cost of the courier service would be borne by you; this is because your winnings are insured and not in liquid form as earlier stated, so it is impossible to deduct the charges from your winnings. This charge is just a small token that can be handled by you. You will be referred to our affiliate courier agent so that you can make enquires concerning modalities, and charges once we hear back from you.

Amrit,
It’s another spam. You wouldn’t see officials from a national lottery using Yahoo-addresses. You wouldn’t win the UK national lottery if you never bought a lottery ticket and I’ve never, ever heard of a lottery actually trying to contact the winners.

They kept coming on a daily basis, I must be a multi billionaire by now. I stopped them some weeks ago now with a simple reply:-
“I work as a secretary for the chief inspector at our local police station, I was so pleased to win that I’m sorry to say I have informed him of my luck, thereby breaking your request to keep it quiet. I do hope this doesn’t affect my claim in any way.”
Funnily enough I haven’t had one since…….

Welcome to HM Revenue & Customs
HMRC is responsible for collecting the bulk of tax revenue, as well as paying Tax Credits and Child Benefits, strengthening the UK’s frontiers and winners of the UK NATIONAL LOTTERY.
ATTENTION,
A recall order has been placed on your winning Cheque by this board which hitherto was on transit.
REASON
Your failure to secure the Inland revenue board tax clearance which Authenticates and validates your winning as mandated by Inland revenue board Regulations of September 2006, which took effect from the 8th of April 2006. In light of this, you will be required to pay 420(Great Britain Pounds) which is equivalent to $835.
Note that your prize is protected by a hardcover insurance policy, which makes it impossible to deduct any amount from the money before it has been remitted to you. This means that the above charges cannot be deducted from the prize and hence must be provided by you before your prize is transferred to you. This is in accordance with section(13)1n of the national gambling acts adopted in 1993and amended on 3rd July 1996 by the constitutional assembly, this is to protect winners and to avoid misappropriation of funds .
You are required to make this payment via WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER in the name of our Accounts officer In London.

NATIONAL LOTTERY
PROMOTIONS/ PRIZE AWARD DEPARTMENT.
79 BOVILL ROAD
LONDON. SE23 1EL.
UNITED KINGDOM.
Attn: Winner,
Congratulations!!!
We are pleased to inform you of the result of the NATIONAL LOTTERY ONLINE PROGRAM which was held on the 09th of Jun, 2007. Due to mix up of names, the results were finally released on 11th of Jun, 2007. Your email address attached to ticket number 025-11464992-750 with serial number 2113-05 drew the lucky numbers:
5 8 9 18 41 47 49
which consequently won the lottery in the 1st category.
You are therefore been approved for a lump sum payout of 400,000.00 (Four-Hundred Thousand Pounds) in cash credited to file Ref No: NLS/2251256003/02.
This is from a total cash prize of 200 Million Pounds shared amongst the first fifty (50) lucky winners in this category. All participants were selected through a computer ballot system drawn from 25,000 names from Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America as part of our international promotions program, which we conduct twice every year.
This year Lottery Program Jackpot is the largest ever for NATIONAL LOTTERY ONLINE PROGRAM. The estimated 200 million jackpot would be the sixth-biggest in Europe history. The biggest was the 363 million jackpot that went to two winners in a February 2000 drawing of The
Big Game Mega Millions’ predecessor.
Your fund is now deposited in an offshore bank insured in your name. Due to the mix up of some numbers and names, we advice that you keep this award from public notice until your claim has been processed and your money remitted to your nominated bank account as this is part of our
security protocol to avoid double claiming or unwarranted taking advantage of this program by the general public.
Please note that your lucky winning number falls within our European booklet representative office in African/Europe as indicated. In view of this, your 400,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand Pounds) would be released to you by our affiliate bank in African/Europe. Our agents will immediately commence the process to facilitate the release of your funds to you as soon as you make contact with them.
To begin your claims please contact your claims agent through bellow telephone numbers and e-mail addresses:
