Many readers have contacted me to ask what can happen if you answer one of these lottery scam emails turning up in your mail. And even though I never went forward with any of these myself, Lance Smith has. Lance has alsw been kind enough to forward the email conversation he has had with the Eurobote lottery scammers.

As it turns out, they will try to charge you about 745 US$ or about 500 € before you can claim your lottery prize.

Here are the five email messages returned to Lance after he, fully aware of the fact that this was an attempt to scam him, went forward and started claiming his million dollar lottery prize:

1. The Scam - Initial notification

First the original bait. The mail telling Lance that he had won a million Euro:

[…] Lance Smith answered the scammers! They seem to settle for 745 dollars, and the full process took over a week. See his mail exchange […]

  2. Katherine Says:

thanks for sharing. I have just got such a shit.

  3. delorre garrett Says:

They are on the move again! I recived the same type of e-mail. I am at stage two. There is no way I am going to send somebody money from another country that i barely hear about, money for something that i can not prove that i have really won. I recived a e-mail a whil back during the first part of the summer telling me, i have inhearted $4000,000 from a long lost cousen of war way back in 1974. The last relative died in an airplain crash and lelf a textile business behind and, told me that he gets 60% o the takes or 40 whatever, and he really thought that i was really going to fall for that. there are maney garrett’s in my family so why me. And he claimed that i was the only living realatives he could find! Now back to me winning the lottery. The webpage that i found (http://www.onlae.com), i can not even reas the langrage. I even e-mail them back and stated this sounds like a scam,. i told them to show me proof and all they wonted was some personel information from me just like the infor here on these pages I’ve read. They must think that All American are dum, rich or poor1

  4. delorre garrett Says:

So, lookout for a E-mail that says, Mr.Luis Fernadaze: Processing Department National Bono Loterias International! I got the same info. The appllication form below the message, I counld not even print a copy of it.

  5. Matt B. Says:

Thank you for posting this information so people can stop the scam before it occurs. My 87 yr old grandmother got a letter from “Euro Bono Lotto Programme” stating almost verbatim exactly what was on your email. I told her not to do anything with it until I research it for her. Thankfully I came across your page and am now certain this is a scam. Once again, THANK YOU!!!! -Matt B. Sarasota, FL

  6. diwakar Says:

the same thing happened with me and just now I have replied with all the details. what will happen?

  7. Nikke Lindqvist Says:

    @diwakar:
Unless you have a very unsecure bank, nothing should happen, but check that they wouldn’t accept a faxed ID and signature as a proof of identity in any transaction.

You will now be contacted about paying invented fees, taxes and maybe even bribes in order to get to the money. You should always reply that they should deduct any fees from the sum you won. That is of course something they cannot do, since there are no money…

  8. claire lindsay Says:

my mum got this letter and its almost identical to the one on your site i couldnt get over how close it was in wording except they offered my mum one million euro i said i would check it out on the net first and i am so glad i did there website is all in spanish so you couldnt read it anyway, what a blag thanks im glad i read your site now.
