Even if the below mail, is quite similar to the previously published Dayzers Lottery scam, it is also very different, and needs a post of it own. Thanks to Gita, who submitted it in a comment. The Dayzers Lottery does in fac exist, but they don’t have any free-for anyone e-mail ballots. They even have a waring about these types of scams published on their website at http://www.dayzers.nl/informatie/waarschuwing.jsp

Unfortunately, the warning is only published in Dutch, a language that most of the victims for this type of scam don’t understand.

In this case, the scammes have used the official name of the Netherland state lottery: The Netherlands Staatsloterij, the Dayzers lottery brand name, as well as the official looking name Sweepstakes International Lottery Promotion Program.

There is no doubt that the below email is a scam (the main tell-tale, again being that an official lottery with it’s own domain wouldn’t use an aim.com email address for it’s communication). If you received a similar one, don’t hesitate to call the Dayzers Lottery in The Netherlands, they speak excellent English, German and French, and can tell you that you, like many others have been exposed to a sting operation.

    I was contacted by e-mail and have complied with signing various documents and paying charges for the ‘notaris’ and ‘transfercharges’. The whole thing can be documented in full. Have just read this warning before paying in ‘local taxes and other dues’ amounting to € 4200.
    Isn’t there a possibility to stop this group doing business?

    Dr. Klement,

    Please excuse my obfuscation of your e-mail address, but the last thing I would want for any of the visitors commenting on this site, is to get even more spam and false lottery notifications.

    I don’t know about the Austrian police, but since you really have a case, and have lost a substantial amount of money on these scammers, so I would definitely give it a try. Only, I wouldn’t take it to the local police station. I would rather try to contact somebody with the financial police or fraud division, or whatever you have in Austria.

    The problem might be that there is no connection to Austria (except you, that is). And there might very well turn out that there isn’t even a real connection to the Netherlands either.

    But that shouldn’t stop you, or anyone else who is a victim of this kind of fraud. The police won’t ever be able to act if we don’t keep reporting this kind of crimes.

    So go for it. Report them!

  3. Nikke Lindqvist Says:

    And please keep us posted on what happens.

  4. Dr.Alois Klement Says:

    Thank you for your encouragement. Am in the process of preparing for vacation, so time is a bit scarce. Locatin the bastards should be easy enough by following the money trail-subpoena Money Gram/Western Union for their transactions with the Postbank address. Will take this up once I’m back from vacation.

    Keep your fingers crossed!

    MRS GHAYTH FAIZA.
    23, Hawley Crescent,
    Camden Town, London,
    NW1 8NP, England.

    Here writes Ghayth Faiza, suffering from cancerous ailment. I am married to Watson Ghayth an Arabian who is dead. My husband was into private practice all his life before his death. Our life together as man and wife lasted for three decades without a child. My husband died after a protracted illness. My husband and I made a vow to uplift the down-trodden and the less-privileged individuals as he had passion for persons who can not help themselves due to physical disability or financial predicament. I can adduce this to the fact that he needed a Child from this relationship, which never came.

    When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of Two Million Great British Pounds Sterling which were derived from his vast estates and investment in capital market with his bank here in UK. Presently, this money is still with the Bank. Recently, my Doctor told me that I have limited days to live due to the cancerous problems I am suffering from.

    Though what bothers me most is the stroke that I have in addition to the cancer. With this hard reality that has befallen my family and i, I have decided to donate this fund to you and want you to use this gift which comes from my husbands effort to fund the upkeep of widows, widowers, orphans, destitute, the down-trodden, physically challenged children, barren-women and persons who prove to be genuinely handicapped financially.

    It is often said that blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this decision because I do not have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are bourgeois and very wealthy persons and I do not want my husband’s hard earned money to be misused or invested into ill perceived ventures. I do not want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly manner, hence the reason for taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be with the Almighty when I eventually pass on.

    The Almighty will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. I do not need any telephone communication in this regard due to my deteriorating health and because of the presence of my husband’s relatives around me. I do not want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible.

    As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the bank in UK. I will also issue you a Letter of Authority that will empower you as the original beneficiary of this fund. My happiness is that I lived a life worthy of emulation. Please always be prayerful all through your life.

    Please assure me that you will act just as I have stated herein. Hope to hear from you soon and God bless you and members of your family.

    Yours Faithfully in Christ
    Ghayth Faiza.

    I have been getting you-have-won-lottery and my-husband-left-you-money kind of mails for a while now and have been doing what any hard working guy would do-delete them promptly and forget about it.

    Don’t mean to be mean, but I guess those of us who want to get rich overnight, without working hard for it, are just sitting ducks for these kind of scamsters. Our greed is their fuel.

    Can we do something to make an example of one of them, so it acts as a deterrent to others?

  18. Suzan Lemont Says:

    Regarding the Dayzers.nl/Netherlands Stadsloterij scam: the Dayzers.nl website DOES publish the warning in English; scroll down past the Dutch. There is a consumer proteection website set up to file complaints but it’s true that one is in Dutch. Still, for those of us living in the NL it is a good idea to report them so they can issue more warnings so no one has to lose any money in ‘notary’ or ‘transfer fees’. These bastards are really good; they even had me thinking that it could just possibly be real. Glad I Googled the response address before doing anything further (what everyone should do if in any doubt - which you should always be if you receive any kind of notice like this)! Just about no one gives anything away for free!

  19. Fredi Walker Says:

    Received a letter from Freedom International Lotto, Winnint ticket number 033654. It informed me that I had won a lump sum payment of US $95,000.00 that will be remitted to my disigated account or the certified cheque will be delivered to my home as soon as the payments are complete. They enclosed a cheque for the amount of US $1,998.00. This check is from one of our financial sponsors and is intended to help pay your taxes. There is a phone number 1-647-832-0014. It has to be claimed on or before 6th July, 2007. The check is drawn on Nordea Bank Finland Pic 437 Madison Ave New York, NY 10022. The check says LLUVATA, Luvate Buffalo, INc. 70 Sayre PO Box 981 Buffalo, NY 14240 (902) 412-0462. But as they say if it sounds to good to be true, it isn’t! I didn’t buy any lotto tickets and this really was tempting. THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET AND YOUR SITE!

    June 27, Phoenix Arizona. I received a Government Lottery Promotion Notice!!! today in my email and after reading it I had to find out how much money in USD first LOL, then before giving any information, I went to Google and typed in Government Lottery Promotion Notice and it came up almost word for word as the one sent to me.
    Also said IT IS A SCAM, yada, yada, all about it.

    I hope everyone will do the same on anything that comes over the Internet or in the US mail to you. Always type it in and see what the Internet tells you about it. This isn’t the first I have received but I always check it out fast and easy on line.

    Be careful people, always and I mean ALWAYS check it out before sending any information at all or getting excited. Its nice to dream of being that lucky winner some day but don’t be taken by these sick scams.
    These people are good at what they do ……. but you can be better, smarter and richer by not falling for it.
    Thank God we have a way to check it out fast and easy and spread the word too.

  24. Nikke Lindqvist Says:

    Sharon, Yoldashev,

    In case you didn’t purchase a lottery ticket, and cannot find an official source stating that precisely that lottery number won the lottery, and if the notification came from or uses a free and open e-mail service such as hotmail, yahoo or gmail… well it’s pretty obvious that your are facing a scam.

  25. Vilius Says:

    I have received a letter from Government Lottery Promotion telling i won 1500000 euros. The thing is, that it is identical to the letter Caeren(above) has received.
    Our ticket numbers are the same, batch and reference numbers are the same, and even the qonsequent winning numbers are the same, only the winning date difers. So, the conclution: it is a scam.

    The interesting thing is that i really have bought a ticket from http://www.lotto.nl. How have those scammers gotten my e-mail? This is something the http://www.lotto.nl should start to worry. And i”ve looked for the names of the people in thhe letter. People with such names really egsist, and are pretty much in the position to be bankers or to have jobs in lottery.The winning numbers: 4-9-17-36-44-78 . The number
    78 is too big, they use numbers till 45 actuallly. So little mistake from the scammers. Why don2t they get a job, like everyone and stop waisting other peoples time and money? Rats.
    pholosophical question too:)

    I forwarded the email I received to everyone I know asking them to pass it on alerting it as a scam.

  33. Nico Says:

    I am pleased to have found that I was not the only one confused by this scam. Although I had more or less the same mail, there were certain changes made in the one I recieved. They even went as far as to call me and request that I send the “Tax money” as soon as possible. A Mr. Rene Hans was the one who called me. After explaining to Mr Hans that I am a student and that I had little if any money, he still sent an email to me again telling me that I should pay the tax in order to pay in the winning money as soon as possible.
    I am a South African citizen, but I can assure anyone, I am not so stupid as to fall to this obvious scam.
    Your website confirmed my suspicions.
    Thanx a lot.

    Yes Pieter, it most probably is a scam.
    There is no reason to believe that a contac from a Dutch company should use a Brittish AOL email address.

    I have also come across such an e-mail, which is obviously a scam. As for the warning of the Holand State Lottery, here is what their site says:

    Warning: fraudulent e-mails
    The Nederlandse Staatsloterij hereby warns the general public that recently some organizations are sending e-mails in which substantial prizes are awarded to the receiver(s) of that e-mail. To collect prizes the receiver
    should contact the organization mentioned in the e-mail. A telephone number should be called or a ‘payment form’ or ‘prize claim form’ should be filled in. In most cases a specific amount of money must be paid in advance to receive the prize.

    The Nederlandse Staatsloterij is not involved

    The Nederlandse Staatsloterij is not involved in these e-mails, and has not given any permission to use its name and address for any purpose. These e-mails are misleading and possibly fraudulent. The Nederlandse Staatsloterij advises the receiver(s) of these e-mails:
    - not to respond in any way to the e-mails;
    - not to pay any money to receive a prize;
    - not to fill in any form to collect the promised prize(s);
    - not to provide any details on bank accounts or credit card numbers;
    - not to get in contact via telephone with the organization(s). Prizes awarded in these e-mails can not be claimed with the Nederlandse Staatsloterij.

    I Recieved a msg on my mobile on 9/11/2007, from a person named Richie stating, Congrat, your GSM number as won 1,000,000 Euros in Netherlands Staatsloterij Promotion, kindly contact Mr.V.B.Williams for details at vanb.william@yahoo.co.uk.
    Then I sent a mail to the above email id asking him what is this, is this true. later i recieved a mail back asking to contact their verification team, email id (verificationdept84@yahoo.co.uk) and ph no (+31-64-720-1757)was mentioned with the contact persons name Philip Dyke and verification form was attached to the mail, which was to be filled and send to the above email id. I did the same as they instructed me.
    I contacted Philip dyke on the above number today . He asked me to pay a amount of 1000 euros as I am not a citizen of Netherland and this amount is for the transfer charges, I told him to deduct the charges from my winning amount and pay back the rest. which he refused. He has also sent a mail clearly stating the reason for paying the initial charges. As the amount demanded by them is high, I got little worried. Then i realised to dig more informations. I visited some of the sites, then suddenly i encountered your site with lots of information with the victims proof. I feel like i have saved my money visiting your site at right time.

    Please guide me on this.

    @M.V.Manjunath

    You can be glad you didn’t move further. The Staatsloterij don’t have a mobile number ballot just as they don’t have an e-mail ballot. They run a business, and only hand out money to people who have purchased lottery tickets.

    Don’t worry too much about the data you sent them. But do contact you bank to make sure noone can use your account. They couldn’t with my bank, but I don’t know about bank security in your part of the world.

  57. Gabriel le Roux Says:

    I received an email informing me that I have won 2 million euros in a sweepstakes. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to do some research before responding to the email.

    The details on the email is almost exactly the same as the one received by Pieter Smith of Secunda, South Africa (I am also a South African citizen). Only the email address and the date of the draw differ.

    I have no doubt that this is a scam.

I can not invest the money for my inscription to your lotterie, so I suggest you pay my inscription and if I win you receive 10% off the winnings.”
    The letter cost me only the paper and a little bit time ((+-10 min), because those crazy b.. are giving a prepayed envelop with the mail.

    Attn: Kamil Kowalczyk,

    Congratulations from our members of staff. This is the Claims Department of Staats Loterij Nederland responsible for the processing of winning prizes in the e-mail lottery program. Your e-mail address attached to a single ticket was found as one of the lucky fifty e-mail addresses that emerged to have won 1,000,000.00 (One million Euro only) in Certified Bank Draft, each. The information was passed to us by the Lottery Coordinator Sweepstakes International office, to ensure that we are in contact with the rightful owners of the winning e-mails and web-site addresses. Like a lot of other people I too got an email saying I won a lot of money. Even though I don’t believe that I won (how can you win if you don’t buy a ticket, right?). But the thing is with this, is that everything is correct, Company name, adress, phone, etc… it’s just their email adress that doesn’t convince me…Anyway, below is the first email I got. The second (I replied just to see what they said) is the one that has all the correct info. Which confuses people to believe it’s true…

    Hmm… I just discovered that post #75 (Kamil) recieved the same email… though the “Foreign Transfer Manager” is not the same persons in our emails…hahaha. What a scam!

  80. Julia Says:

    I just got an email saying I won 1,000,000 euros…but the website I sent to check it out was all in some other language. The guy called me but I could barely understand him and was telling me something about having to wire $825 in order to process the necessary documents. If this is a legitimate why can’t they just take it from the “winnings”? quite frustrating to think I possibly won something big, then it turns out to be a scam!

    I also received one of these scam emails, but it is’nt the first. We have a sight in the internet and often receive emails of people wanting to buy properties but I have come to the conclusion that it is all a great big scam. I agree that the international police should take action and put a stop to this all.
