Did you get mail from the Yahoo! Awards Center? I hate to break it to you, but the mail is fake. It’s a typical scam, sent to thousands of people in order to try to steal their money, their identity or just pick petty change from them by making them answer, and thereby confirm their e-mail address. If you have any doubt whatsoever that this is a scam, stop just for a second and think of why Yahoo! would use an email address from their competitor Google’s online email service GMail.

Here’s my copy, if you got one like these, or even remotely like these it’s an iScam. Just throw it away and try to forget about it.

    I know that the email is a scam. What I don’t understand is why can’t this be stopped? Is there anything that people like me can do to help capture these people? If they can trace our address, why can’t we trace theirs? Don’t these scams damage Yahoo’s reputation?

    I know that the email is a scam; I’ve received hundreds of them. In any legit lottery first you would have to enter and then if you are a winner you would be notified privately.
    To: Your name and email address would appear in this (To) line not “undisclosed-recipients” That is if you would be notified via email, but most lotteries would notify you by postal mail.

  • I hope you excuse me for obfuscating you e-mail addresses. The thing is you got a few things wrong.

    This site warns about scams (that is frauds) where scammers (another word for thieves) try to steal other peoples money by cheeting them that they won a lot of money.
    You shouldn’t leave your e-mail address at a site that is bound to be under surveillance by lots of these scammers
    You didn’t win anything since Yahoo don’t give away free money

    Yahoo are in financial trouble, just like just about every other large .com company right now

    So. Sorry to break the news to you in this way. But you didn’t win anything and you should start paying more attention when reading stuff.

    I just wanted to let the public know that there is yet another scam that has popped up. I received and email today through hotmail, stating that I had won £820,000,00 for the 2009 prize promotion which is organized by Yahoo Awards & Windows Live.

    This email was headed Yahoo & Microsoft 2009 Award and Window Promotion.

    I had a gut feeling regarding this email and straight away I put in a search after copying the email and I just wanted people to be aware of this.

    I think that these people that send these kind of emails needs to be punished.

    The Agents name on the email to get intouch with is a Dr John D Patrick, from Patrick Consulting Services, 14152 Bond Overland Park, WC1R 4EB, London, England.

    Once again the email ended in a warning not to tell anyone about this prize award until the money is successfully handed over to the person that received it. And it also states that it is not a bogus winning or another pyramid of money making bussiness.

The best thing to do is to file a complaint with the US Attorney’s Office or FBI. secondly, send them a response and let them know that your attorney will hande the transaction. This usually lets them know you are on to them… My only question is why do most scams originate from the UK?

  • If you live in a country with reasonably good bank security you’re probably in the safe, but it might be worth your while to check with your bank as soon as possible.

    You will probably just start getting mails and calls from them about paying various fees, commissions, taxes or even bribes. Just ignore them. That’s my advice.

Surely the ISP should be able to track him and Have his connection disconnected for some time. Besides, I’m sure he has stolen a lot of money before today so he should even be charged.
