At times, I have felt sorry for Windows users who gets their computers infected by email viruses. But then I come to, and remember that you really have to be pretty stupid to open some of the enclosures you get from unknown sources.
Like this one, that looks as if it was sent by Symantec Support. But why would Symantec send me a new virus definitions file by mail? I’ve never submitted anything to them, and even if I had, I wouldn’t use their software if they sent their updates in such a manner:
From: support@symantec.com
Subject: Re: Submit a Virus Sample
Date: Tuesday 4 okt 2005 15.05.18 GMT+02:00
To: meThe sample file you sent contains a new virus version of mydoom.j.
Please clean your system with the attached signature.Sincerly,
Robert Ferrew
Enclosed was a very malicious looking zipped file named datfiles.zip
As it happens, I am a Mac user, but even if I was using Windoze, I would never open a file sent in such a mail. I hope you wouldn’t either.
