After getting more than 50,000 bounce mails I closed down my multi-pop account and didn’t see much more of them. Then, I went out of town, and off-line, and never realized I had been attacked by a revenging (and probably still half-witted) spammer. Today, thanks to Wired News, I have learned the term Joe-job and got another mention from Wired News.
Time Travel with Time Travel Bob
Time Travel Bob, aka Robert Todino, had a huge part of my Internet life during 2003, when he sent out tons of spam mails asking for spare parts to his time travel equipment so that he could go back to the future. I've dug through the archives and re-published all of my old blog posts from 2003. Most of them are full of old Internet Archive links, since most of the referred pages are long gone. But I thought it well worth the work to bring these humorous events back to life again. Enjoy!
Wired News confirms that Bob White aka Brian Appel is Robert Todino
Wired News has picked up on the Warp Generator thread and found confirmation that the Time Travel spammer that has given us so much joy during the last months in fact is Robert ”Robby” Todino from Woburn. Just like we have speculated about.
Is there a new Dimensional Warp Generator Needed spammer?
I received yet another ”Dimensional Warp Generator Needed” mail this morning, containing som many discrepansies from the earlier ones that I suspect somone has picked up on the scam started by Time Traveler Bob White aka David/Brian Appel. Discrepansies Earlier mails have been sent to two or three different addresses within my lindqvist.com domain. Two […]
Warp Watch Needed – From Brian Appel?!?!
I was almost worried Time Traveller Bob had packed it in (or had been taken in buy nice men in white coats), but today a new mail arrived from him. He has changed the pitch a bit again and has changed his name from Bob White to Brian Appel!
Will we see new kinds of spam soon?
08/06 2003 – Spam has become such a big thing it is almost killing itself. Not many spam messages get past my mail.app junk filter today, and when they do, I can almost always tell that it is a spam mail and Junk stamp it (to teach my junk filter that this is something I […]
An older Time Traveller mail. He wants a fresh start!
I have known there has been other Time Traveller spam mails going round, but haven’s seen any of these. But today I found one. It’s published by Eric Gregory on the ISP-chat at mail-archive.
The time travel spammer has a name
Tonight I received another DWG needed mail. It’s pretty much the same as the last one except the coordinates has changed somewhat to a positive value for longitude: Latitude N 42.47935 & Longitude W 071.17355 Elevation 119. The new pickup time is for today (”Monday August 4th at (exactly 3:00pm) Eastern Standard Time”). If someone is close. You could have some fun meeting up.
DWG Needed (Another time traveller spam)
I have seen traces that the time traveller has been at it again. Links from various other sites and comments plus replies from various other people. Since earlier experience have tought me that the guy sending these out is something of a raving lunatic who actually believes that he is trapped in time, I haven’t wanted to publish any of these. But today this mail finally reached me.
Time Traveller Bob has been warped for years
I’ve been out of time for two nights, and just came home, eager to catch the latest developements in Dave Hill’s mail conversation with time traveller Bob White. When I left, the package with a phony sample of a ”industrial trans-warp generator” (really parts from a very old, outdated external hard drive).
During my absence things have taken a rather surprising direction. It turns out Time Traveller Bob has been at this for years. (He claims in one of the mails he has sent over 2 billion emails).
Dave is claiming the time traveller’s reward
Dave actually took the time to start a conversation with the lost time traveller at the info@federalfundingprogram.com address. You’ll find their mail exchange below, and even if this whole thing still just might be about time travel, I’ve taken the liberty of editing the thread cronologically, so that it will be easier to read.
