Well… The very first question to ask is if the mail you received was sent from a free online mail service, or from a domain that can in any way be connected with either a company called Imperial Investment Agency, S.A?

I also got one of those emails from the euro million promo. As usual I had to contact a courier agent to clame my win. Of course the courier company Fronteir Courier Service operates with yahoo address ‘coz their normal email in under maintanance. Yeah, right.
I payed the game and ended up having their banking details, instead of them having mine. Of course the bank account was on a private name and not of the above comany.
I don’t know to whom should i forward the account details, interpol,…? Surely from the account details the respective autorities can at least have positive ID of the scamers.

Try reporting it to the police. The more of us who does that, the more pressure we will add for Interpol to actually start doing something about these scammers.
I don’t have a good address, and I’m not even suer one exists though. The signature ”The Spaminator” posted these email addresses in another comment:

I have received a ”Award Notification Notice” in a mail week ago from EURO MILLON ESPANOL SIA that i won bla bla euros and i need to call this number to claim for money. Envelope doesn’t have address on it, stamped from spain ‘correos’ address, tel and fax listed on letter.
In such a excitement, i even called this number and talked to the guy, who seems to have Jamaican/Nigerian accent residing in Madrid, Spain(where the notice came from) , while i was talking to him, it was so peaceful, no noise nothing at all, seems like they were desperately waitin for calls (to scam peepz?)
He asked my reference number, name, tel and then figured out what state and country. He also provided another number to reach him (confused) and asked me when will i fax him processing form, so i said probably tomororw ‘he was like good good’ asked me to fill out that form with bank account number (if i want wired transfer) or address (don’t they already have my address?) where the check will be sent to. At the end of the conversation, he said ”Congratulations” !! i didnt’ know what to say based on the conversation i was havin with him with all the doubts running around in ma mind.

So, what do u guyz all think?

It seems like a scam because every other person happens to be a winner for the money which is neva meant to be there at first place. I was fool enough to call them and showing interest to claim with all that excitement which you probably going thru, and funny thing is they are more excited than me (who won million) please !!!!!!!!! Well, i still have one more day to claim for the imaginery jackpot lol, i might just call them back to hear their funny jamaican accent ( KONG-RRA-CHU-LAY-SHIONS ) and get their info out. You could call them and find out without giving your personal info especially social or credit card, i would care less about name and address which anyone can pull out from yellowpages or online. Hilarious! At times like that I almost wish I had unlimited funds and could go in your place, armed with a backup crew with cameras and recording equipment. But even then, I wouldn’t meet the big fish, only the thugs I guess.

Someone asked why they do this / what do they get out of it. Once they draw you in with greed, they ask for the mark (you) to cover bank account transfer fees so that they can send you the money. Then you need to be authorized, which is another fee. Et cetera forever, and you never get the money. There is a good write up of how 419 scams work here:

These folks are usually professional criminals who are not above physically harming a mark – people have lost their fortunes and also lives while involved with these scams. Just delete the email and walk away. Nobody gives away millions of dollars for free.

technology is wonderfull but only in the hand of good people. i just received this email from Belgium saying that i won $1,000,000.00. I wish. the first step i did was to google the so called EUROMILLION LOTTERY…. and thanks God i found these testimonies. I knew something was wrong, a Milion dollar, are you kidding me? It’s a scam for sure, but I don’t think you need to worry about submitting your name and address. What the scammers want, is to get you to believe that you have won all that money. They want you to feel really stinking rich.

Then, they come up with all kinds of fees, commissions and taxes that have to be payed before you can get the money. In the comments here on the site numerous people have witnessed about paying more and more before realizing that they will never get any money at all.

I am from maldives, I never been in Spain but I got a letter from Post stating that I won 915,810.00 euros. I am really confused how do they knew my name and address. As we are living in a newly developed island. Hardly anyone from europe will know this place especially someone from spain.

They seem to change things up a little bit. My E-mail stated that I had won less than 1 million, but well over half a million. Being down on my luck at the time I thought this is the answer to my desperate prayers. RIGHT!!!!!

Glad I found this site and found out about this scam before I really went off the deep end. I was pretty sure it was a scam when they referenced the FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION, LONDON.

As far as I know the FDIC is for U.S. banks only.

I had a similar letter from these guys, and nearly fell for it. Upon reflection, it is so obviously a scam, but what frightens me is that they now know my name through my email address. Address check reveals Camelot offices in Watford, Tolpits Lane, Watford WD18 9RN. Will just have to hope that I am not contacted again.

I am from maldives, I never been in Spain but I got a letter from Post stating that I won 680.000.00 euros letter was signed by Alberto Hernandez Helguera. I am really confused how do they knew my name and address. As we are living in a newly developed island. Hardly anyone from europe will know this place especially someone from spain.

First of all. You haven’t won anything. The people who sent you the letter just want you to believe you did, in order to start fooling you to pay fees, taxes, commissions and even bribes in order to transfer the money to your bank. The only thing that is absolutely true, is that lots of us got the same mail and letter and that these are sent out by scammers operating from Nigeria.

There are lots of ways these fraudsters might have come across your address. If might, for example, be published anywhere on the web, in an online phone directory or other type of directory listing…

My advise is to just throw away the letter and forget about it.

I too am from Maldives. 3 of my family members, including me got this scam mail through post (snail mail) ON THE SAME DAY!!!!. (Amazing isn’t it). We have become Billionaires in the wink of an eye.

It stated as most of you said…
”We re pleased …. so and so….”. Also to contact the claims agent Mr. Wilfred Benjamin who is the transfer manager of Imperial Investment Agency. They said I won 950,810 euros. It was signed by a Dr. Anthony Franco John.
….And at the end of the letter, they stated, ”All correspondence must be directed to your authorized and registered claims agent: Imperial Investment Agency”.
With this they enclosed a form to be filled with my occupation, marital status, passport no. and so and so. and asked me to fax it to +34-659-052-223 or call +34-660-595-089

Also there was a declaration as follows

So All Maldivians and the rest of the world be aware that these are completely 100% frauds. Some guys originate from Nigeria. I think Nigerian government should do something about this. As well as the Spanish government. Or anyone else please give a lesson to these guys. I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE FROM NIGERIA. Maybe affiliated with some Spanish guys as well.

I am saying NIGERIANS because about 6 months back some guys tried to sell PS3 consoles(80gb versions) to me for 200 U.S dollars only. Even at ebay I couldn’t find 80gb versions. And I knew this version of the PS3 was not even on the market yet. First they said they are from U.K and then stated their company is at U.S. So I asked them how they prefer to be paid to which they replied through Western Union. I knew from the beginning these are frauds, for PS3 was just out in the market and the price was unbelievably low. I replied to them because I saw their ad on a free Maldivian website stating they are currently residing at Hulhumale’, (an island near Male’) and so I thought of meeting them. At last they gave me their address : James.. I can’t remember the rest. But what I do remember is NIGERIA, their country as they stated. Most of the times they create their emails on myway.com…. Even on the Euro Million Lottery form they put their e-mail as: impel700@myway.com

From that day onwards I never trust Nigerians. Also some ebay sellers NEVER SHIP THEIR ITEMS TO NIGERIA.
And then this snail mail…. stating I have won a lottery.. Lottery your a***. Final Award your F******* selves.

I then became skeptical so i asked my brother and sister and they told me to just google it because it is probably a scam. Luckily i found this site. I got a similar letter by mail and decided to call these guys. First, they speak terrible english. When I asked the ”agent” any details about the lottery system, he said that I should just fill out the form and send it. He also said that he can’t give me any more information without the filled form at the moment and then just hung up!!!

I was skeptical of a scam and found your web-site on Google. The letter interduction was Dear Winner, no name, I took this as a boiler plate letter sent out to the masses. Interesting the third paragraph states: Your fund is now deposited with a security company insured to your name which is responsible for the handling and remittnce of won prizes until they are accurately disbursed. Due to a mix up of some nuimber and names we ask that you keep this award from public notice until your claim has been processed and you money remitte to your nomination account as this is a part of our security protocol to avoid double claiming or unwarranted taking advantage of this program by participants. I received the same e-mail. It’s pretty funny, when they tell you to proceed right away to Brussells Belgium and confirm your flight plans, I would have asked them to book the flight for me. (they can take it out of the million euros) I wonder how they make money off of this if they don’t get your personal information. Maybe the number you have to call is like a 1-900 number where they get money for each call. Can Interpol track any of these people?

I got the same letter from euromillions im going to try and go along with the scam and see if I can get some info about these heartless bastards. SOmeone really needs to do something about this. It ruins peoples lives and drains there hard earned money. You would be surprised how far these scammers would go just to get a few bucks from you im sure they wouldnt mind taking your life, if its sounds too good to be true its NOT TRUE! I wish I had the money to fly over there and take care of these people myself. THese people need to be stopped immedeaitly!

Well, I just recieved a letter (snail mail) from the ‘Euro Million Lottery International’ with the address of ”124 Oxford St. London, W1D 2EU, United Kingdom” supposedly from the desk of Vice President International Promotions/Prize Award Dept Ellen Fernandez. M.

The signature is obviously printed out with the rest of the out-of-focus looking print-job (if we’re talking millions, you’d think they’d actually write their name or have a better print-job done), and was accompanied with a second form for filling out, asking for my account number. This has scam written all over it. It did come from the UK though, as the postage is in UK denominations. Looks like it was mailed on the 18th of July. It is now the 28th.

Thank you for posting this string to educate others who are vunerable to parasites and scum like these. Awareness is key in protecting ourselves.

I’m waitig somebody to comment

I just got a letter form ”Megan Green at Aqua Finance an accredited agent of Euro-Million Lotteries” that states that I won $50,000 (fifty thousnd dollars only). But the one thing that is so different about my letter is that it had a check of $2,940.30. The letter said that it was an assistance check to help pay the taxes and administrative expenses. The letter had a phone number, but when I called the number, the recording said ”sorry, there is no more room to record your message”. The check appeared to be real, and being a poor college student, I just deposited it. My bank has put a 5 day hold on the check, I’m very sceptical, but It sure would be cool if it cleared!

So, this letter is from Caroline Bush. Bush who, George Bush relative. In this letter she does not mention her phone# or not even website address was given. So that’s why I never trusted it. Sridhar and Yeng, I got the exact same message as well in the mail. The envelope included no return address. Hmm… The only difference between mine and Yeng’s were the dates. Serial numbers, lottery numbers, claim agent (Dr David Paco) are all identical.

The second page also has this to say…

They kindly posted a fax #: +34 911 011 229 and tel # of +34 697 334 320. I live really close to a police station. I’ll drop by during lunch or something.

Just noticed another discrepancy… The Tel # and fax # on the first page don’t match that other form or even within itself…

The main page (informing me of my ”winnings”) has Tel #: +34 627 850 710 and Fax # +34 635 176 180 on the top left corner. Deeper down the letter is the phone # 011 34 697 334 320 and fax # 011 34 917 615 137. And finally, it says to send the payment processing form to 011 34 911 011 229.

Like they always say, if it’s too good to be true, it’s probably a scam. I to got one of these e-mails today, and have been spoofed many times through the same EURO’s Tricks of trying to manipulate people into thinkin’ they actually won a lottery. Out of all of the e-mails I have gotten though, you can already tell it’s BS when they can’t spell. Least thing they can do before sending an idiot e-mail they could possibly use Spelling-Check. I do know alot of ‘em spell some words different that end with an ‘e’ and that might be how they learn English in they’re language, but it’s one of the #1 mistakes I’ve caught in all of the e-mails I’ve recieved. Granted my spelling might not be top of the line either but sometimes I like to type with the southern accent that I’ve learned. i.e., thinkin’ Hopefully we can get these guys caught. Thanks for this awesome website and lettin’ me rant on here.

I got a mail today said I won the lottery too. I knew it is a scam but what is their purpose?

Their purpose it to make people believe that they have a lot of money coming. And then start making their victims pay for small services, such as lawyers fees, bank fees, taxes, commissions… It never ends, and sooner or later their victims realize that there was no reall lottery. And since they never bought a lottery ticket, they have no real claim anyway.

I got the same letter today as well, there should be a class action suit against these people, it shouldn’t be legal to make people think they won the lottery and scam them.

i had also recieved a mail on 20th sept 2007. and they talked about the same lottery winning amount of 1,000,000.00 pounds. but by the grace of God i not rplied to them. but one thing i want to know that is there any actual process from the Bill gates company for such kind of lottery system. if yes then please reply me and guide me so that in future we will be able to take care of ourselves.

Just recently went on an over 45 yrs Dating web site. Met a fellow supposedly Norweigian who lives in Canada with his 12 yr old son. Appearently he had to rush off to work in Nigeria (with his son) before we got a chance to meet. He asked me to open a bank account so he could transfer money into it from his client, that could be wired back to him from Canada. Appearently they only use cash in Nigeria and he only had an international credit card with him. I questioned why any parent would travel with a child in hand without taking any cash. Needless to say the internet relatonship ended abruptly.

But it’s from the exact same people. Everything is photocopied vs printed like any legal business would.

I am from Holland and I received a similar e-mail today. I knew instantly that it wasn’t real, because they made some mistakes in their writing. Also, it didn’t seem professional. I decided to look on the internet whose telephone number they gave and in a way I came on this website. After reading most of the posts I found out that:
1: they often use the same names, but also very different names
2: the adresses they give are not real. I saw one post with an adress in Holland, it should be isabella richardstraat in the hague, but that street doesn’t exist in the hage, plus, the postal code they gave doesn’t exist at all in Holland, and the postal code for the hage always starts with 25xx so i’m guessing all the adresses they give are fake
3. the emailadresses from which they send the mails are always nonprofessional,’most of the time from yahoo or hotmail. Organisations don’t use such adresses.
4. If those people really worked at some kind of lottery business, ther would be a website (official) and their names would be on it.. didn’t find such a thing..
And so on.

Furthermore, last year my boyfriend tried to sell something on martkplaats.nl (like ebay) and got some troubles with someone who wanted to buy it for his son in Nigeria. The guy sent bid much more than the thing was worth (strange) and sent the e-mail from his company. I don’t know exactly how it went, but it was strange cause hedidn’t want to sent the money first. He wanted it to sound very official and proffessional, but the made a lot of spelingmistakes and so on. He also wanted that my boyfriend sent the thing to Nigeria I belive, but the money should come from somewhere else. It was alle very weird. Finally my boyfriend stopped contact with the person, because he didn’t want to give his personal information, because the person didn’t seem trutworthy.

I hope no-one ever falls for this kind of scam. I hope no-one believes that he/she has won a lottery of which he/she never even knew of. In my case, the belgischelottory doesn’t even exist, and is spelled wrongly.

I received an e-mail letter from million lottery of Netherlands stating I am a winner of 900,000 Euros. The classic about this letter is telling other lottery are scam. They are genuine.
I phone up and found the respondent is not convincing and check with google to find the contents in letters issued in other countries is almost the same. I just forget about it and stop wasting my time dreaming of becoming rich. Nothing comes easy.

I to received a letter from Euromillions international programme and I was stupid to rush out of the house to fax the information required for the cash. This morning I made 2 long distance calls to Spain … I can just imagine the cost of those call…. at the first call I made, after speaking for about 5 minutes, the spanish guy said to me: I will call you back in 10 minutes, I am with a customer. I replied alright. so about 15 minutes later the phone rings I picked it up but the line wasn’t working. So I called back and the spanish guy said: I don’t know why but the line wasn’t going through … What I’m wondering if this scam isn’t to make us call long distances probably to this number and they receive commission on the long distance call. It will probably cost me at least 25$ for the call …. I’m so mad, I want to go to Spain to strangle these people.

At first I believed it, because I played the Euro Lottery on that spesific day they claimed that I have won. I soon enough realiased that this is a scam. They even send me a ”Prize Winning Certificate”.

I also received a mail from ” Euro Milliones Lottery” today. I have won 500000 euro
I knew right away, that it had to be a scam.
But maybe I should write them back with some false informations. At least that would make them waist some time, like they have waisted my time.

One of the ”sponsors” for the lottery in my letter was the sultan of Brunei 🙂

i had also recieved a mail on 3rd november 2007. and they talked about the same lottery winning amount of 1,500,000.00 euro. but by the grace of God i not rplied to them. but one thing i want to know that is there any actual process from the Bill gates company for such kind of lottery system. if yes then please reply me and guide me so that in future we will be able to take care of ourselves.

Hari, there is no normal procedure, since there is no such lottery run by the Microsoft company.

I have one millions of dollars in various lotteries. Never collected, but I make them spend some time with me. If you win the lottery and have an anonymous email address, (Gmail, Yahoo, hotmail, etc.) respond with fake information and keep stringing them along. They get real agitated and I figure the time they spend with me is time they can’t spend on a real victim.

At the very end, usually 5 emails, I send them an email saying I am the wife of Clive Wilson and sad to report, Clive died last nite. They reply with condolences and ask if I would like to claim Clive’s prize. Then the game starts again. Big waste of time, but fun in a sick sort of way.

PS. They like to be addressed as ”Mugu”. I think it means Chief in Nigerian.

To be curious, I filled up the claim/payment form and followed the number faxed to them. 2 months later, I received a call from a man whose voice liked came from the Moon. He told me he was calling from the bank in London UK regarding about my payment of the lottery. As I could not understand him clearly he sent me e-mail:

Then he called me again to ask me pay the serive charge fees in short time. I told him I would pay the fees until I see the winning amount sitting in my account. He just kept explaining again and again…What a scam.
